We use 3 different platforms for to build and send out emails. Mailchimp is used to create and edit templates, Mixpanel is used to send emails to all current RESAAS users and Campaigner is used to send emails to Academy subscribers, Blog subscribers and firm activations. When creating a new email for a template that is used monthly you can go into Mailchimp and simply update that template (rather than creating multiple copies). If you are creating a new email you can browse all the previously created templates and find an email that had a similar purpose and replicate that one to maintain consistency in design and to save extra work.

Titles are used in newsletters to describe each section (link) as well as for the tagline at the top of each drip email and some promotional / infrequent emails. Drag a text block into the email and insert the code into the <> view. Use the following code and example for templates.

<div style="text-align: center;"><font color="#000000"><span style="-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased; font-family:open sans, arial; font-size:25px; line-height:30px">TITLE HERE</span></font></div>

Body Text

Body text is where the main bulk of the text will be, this is where you describe the promotion, the feature details and give more context. Drag a text block into the email and insert the code into the <> view. Use the following code and example for templates. Adjust the "text-align" to center or left depending on the template you're editing.

<p style="font-family:open sans, arial; text-align: center; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased"><span style="color:#696969"><span style="font-size:14px">BODY TEXT HERE</span></span></p>

Buttons are built in Mailchimp using code in order to get the advanced styling that we require. Buttons should follow the correct styling (background + font colour) depending on what sub-brand their referring to. In Mailchimp drag a code block to create this button. The buttons should follow this appearance and the following code can be used and customized (CTA + link) for templates. Use CAPS for button CTAs for consistent styling.

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="0%" align="center" style="background-color:#464646; border:0px solid #ffffff; border-radius:3px;">
        <td align="center" valign="middle" style="color:#ffffff; font-family:Open sans, arial; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; font-size:15px; letter-spacing:0px; line-height:150%; padding-top:15px; padding-right:30px; padding-bottom:15px; padding-left:30px;">
            <a href="LINK HERE" target="_blank" style="color:#fff000; text-decoration:none;">CTA HERE</a>

Use the following code and example for all footers sent out through Mixpanel. Drag a text block into the email and insert the code into the <> view. For emails sent through Campaigner, the footer should already be setup.

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased; font-family:open sans, arial; line-height:20px; text-align:center">This email was intended for {{$first_name}} {{$last_name}}.<br />

  • When pasting email html from Mailchimp into Mixpanel make sure to go into the pasted html and remove *|MC:SUBJECT|* or replace it with text you would like the subscriber to see in the preview text below the subject line on mobile view.

  • Emails should also have the reply to email set to unless specifically decided otherwise.

  • From name for more formal emails is usually just RESAAS, otherwise, to make it more personal we will use from names like "Lina from RESAAS" or Lina Saravia.

  • When adding images to template in Mailchimp make sure to also add in the Alt text in case the images do not automatically show in the subscribers inbox. You can find the "Alt" as an option when you go to edit an image.

  • When naming campaigns in Mixpanel and Campaigner try to use consistent naming. For example monthly newsletters usually are named "Monthly Newsletter - Sept 2015"

  • Newsletters can be as long or as short as you want. Simple duplicate the tiles to add more groups (image + title + description + CTA).

  • Images should be a max width of 600px to be optimized for emails.

  • All emails should be approved by the emails owner at the proposal phase, the design phase and the segmentation/scheduling phase.

  • When designing templates in Mailchimp you can add spacing by dragging a divider into the template and changing the line to none and adjusting the spacing above and below.

  • For consistent use of UTMs in emails that are consistently sent out you can simply update the actual link but leave the UTMs that are already found in Mailchimp templates.
